tours are an excellent way to experience the waters off Kailua. The Guides will
determine the route for the tour depending on weather, water conditions and the
ability of the group. Make sure to go with an outfit that has guides, that are
very experienced and know the waters and islands off Kailua/Lanikai. There are
companies that have some some real rookies. One way to find out if you are in
good hands is to ask for an ACA certification. Popular destinations for kayak
tours are Popoia (Flat Island), the Mokulua Islands and Lanikai Beach. Sightings
of the protected Green Sea Turtle are very common, so are sightings of the Wedge-tailed
Shearwater and a variety of shorebirds such as the Pacific Golden Plover and Ruddy
Turnstone. Sometimes the protected Hawaiian Monk Seal make an appearance.
