One day off from work at Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks we decided to catch some waves. We took a few rental kayaks to a popular surf spot and had a lot of fun. Ocean Kayaks Malibu II turned out to be the winner. This kayak rips. It is a rather short tandem kayak with a rounded bottom. We managed a few steep drop ins and nice carving  bottom turns. On the downside we also had a few of the bigger sets break on us which resulted in a little bit of swimming. I remember one where my front man jumped ship as we are climbing up the face of the wave on our way back out. The lack of paddling power and weight did not exactly help and I got sent back down the face of the wave. These days kayak surfing is a popular sport and Kailua Sailboards and Kayaks has a handful ACA certified instructors that teach lessons.
